Measuring Yourself Properly for a Plus Size Bra

For a plus size woman, getting a bra that fits right is a challenge in itself. But, if you aren’t exactly sure of what your size actually is, you might be challenging yourself even more than you need to be.

Wearing the right size bra ensures that your breasts are getting the support you need, but that you are still able to feel comfortable and move around.

Take a look at the three necessary steps to help you properly measure for your next bra. Be sure that while measuring you are not wearing a bra or are wearing one that isn’t padded, as it could cause you to get off measurements.

1. Measure your band size

Place your measuring tape around your torso, directly under your breasts. Make sure the tape is tight against your body and measure to the nearest whole number.

If your measurement is odd, such as 35 or 37 inches, then you will want to add 5 inches to this number.

If your measurement is even, such as 36 or 38 inches, then you will want to add 4 inches to this number.

The final number that you come to is going to be your band size.

2. Measure your bust size

Place your measuring tape around your torso at nipple level, the fullest part of your breast. Make sure the tape is somewhat loose and round your measurement up to the closest whole number.

3. Use your measurements to determine your cup size

Lastly, you will subtract the bust measurement from your band size to determine what your cup size is. The difference between your two measurements will help you to determine which cup size is right for your band size.

2 = B cup 3 = C cup 4 = D cup 5 = DD cup 6 = F cup 7 = G cup 8 = H cup Keep in mind that our bodies are constantly changing and that it is not unheard of for a woman to fluctuate in bra size. So, it doesn’t hurt to measure yourself at various stages in life, or even before you purchase new plus size bras for your underwear drawer.
